About Nanny McPhee:
boom competitions - win Nanny McPhee on DVD

A dark and witty fable starring Oscar-winners Emma Thompson (Harry Potter, Love Actually, Matilda) and Colin Firth (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Girl With A Pearl Earring). Nanny McPhee is a classic children’s adventure.

Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay for Nanny McPhee. It was based on the book Nurse Matilda by Christianna Brand which was first published in 1964. It took Thompson 9 years to write. To many people’s surprise it turned in $122 million in global ticket sales in 2005.

Emma Thompson has been adapting Nanny McPhee for a stage musical production since 2018. Scottish singer-songwriter Gary Clark (Sing Street) has written the music. Clark was the front man of 1980s pop band Danny Wilson who had a number 3 hit single in 1988 with "Mary's Prayer". The show which Thompson is directing but not starring in, was said to be hitting the West End this year but nothing has been confirmed yet. Thompson has described the music as a “cross between the Tiger Lillies and Tom Waits’s ‘Swordfishtrombones.'”

Synopsis: Emma Thompson plays Nanny McPhee - a person of unsettling appearance and magical powers who enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown (Colin Firth) and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children. The children have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies but as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behaviour now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences.
