About Paddington Bear:
boom competitions - win Paddington Bear on pop-up Blu-ray

A timeless masterpiece based on the internationally acclaimed books by Michael Bond, Paddington Bear directed by Ivor Wood and narrated by the utterly brilliant Michael Hordern remains one of the most successful children’s programmes ever produced in the UK.

These boxsets include all 56 episodes broadcast between 1976 and 1980 and three longer specials, now restored and remastered in Hi-Definition for the first time ever. The special limited version includes a slipcase with 3D Pop-Up Paddington Scene Artwork.

The first Paddington book by Michael Bond was published in 1958 and was titled “A Bear called Paddington”. Paddington books have over the years been translated into 40 different languages. Paddington originally "travelled from darkest Africa," however Bond’s agent advised him that there were no bears in Africa, and so it was amended to Peru, home to the spectacled bear.

Michael Hordern said that God, King Lear and Paddington Bear were his most challenging roles.

The first Paddington Bear stuffed toy was manufactured in 1972 by Gabrielle Designs. Bond had awarded the small family run business the licensing of the toy rights throughout the world. Gabrielle Designs was run by Top Gear presenter turned Farmer Jeremy Clarkson’s parents Shirley and Eddie. The prototype was made as a Christmas present for Jeremy and his sister Joanna. Previously Paddington hadn’t worn boots but the toys were given red boots to help them stand up.

Paddington Bear: The Complete Series is now available on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as a limited edition pop-up edition on Blu-ray.
