Tape 407
18 ¦ DVDThere's all kind of luck in this world, which all of us experience at some point in our lives, both good and bad, but you have to feel for the passengers of Optima flight 37A.
They boarded a red eye flight from New York to LA on New Year's Eve. For most of the passengers, it would turn out to be a terrible ordeal, most notably for an incredibly annoying teenage passenger Trish (Abigail Schrader) who insists on filming on board and being 'super' irritating.
Thankfully karma is a two way flight, so Trish gets her comeuppance when their plane hits some turbulence just after midnight, and crashes in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately Trish survives, as do a small number of other passengers.
Just when they're starting to thank their lucky stars for surviving such an awful event, they hear a strange sound in the distance. And it's getting closer. So despite being fortunate enough to still be alive, it appears some wild beastie isn't happy with the way they burst in on its New Year celebrations. But looking on the bright side for him, it looks like his takeaway order has arrived...
It's difficult to associate all the blame to the legacy of The Blair Witch Project, after all, without it we'd quite possibly be without the excellent REC series. So as well as the good, we also have to take the bad, like Tape 407.
Without having the kind of super brain like that kid from Touch, it's difficult to actually calculate the odds of crashing smack bang into the middle of the feeding ground of an unknown killer animal are, but it's fair to say they're high. Particularly when you consider that the exact same thing happened to Jack, Hurly, Kate etc. on Oceanic flight 815.
On top of that, there were not one but two photographers on board, who found that both their cameras were still working after the crash. Amazing. And obviously, being that you found yourselves injured in the middle of nowhere, the first thing you would do is fire up the cameras and start documenting everything. After all, that You've Been Framed cheque for £250 isn't going to win itself is it?
Strangely enough however, when the group are discussing exactly what it was that was attacking them, no-one has the sense of checking back the footage on either of the cameras that were rolling at the time to find out. So whatever bad things do come their way, it couldn't happen to a better bunch.
Not only is there not one ounce of originality in the script or in the way it's filmed, it's not that enjoyable to watch either. The acting reeks of a bunch of out of work actors 'workshopping' scenes as they go along, with little success. Which means sitting through all of that shaky-cam was in vain.
So if you ever happen to find yourself with a copy of Tape 407 in your hand, then it sounds like your luck is about to run out too.
